A well executed coloured watercolour silhouette painted on paper. This is unsigned and contained within the original leather and felt folding easel display, complete with hook catches to the top and bottom. The case is in remarkably good condition and has preserved the silhouette and its colours very well.  There is an oval gilt metal dot and line pattern surround retaining the old glass. The silhouette, as with all military silhouettes, is hard to date, but there are some key features. The Tarleton helmet was worn by the British Light Dragoons and artillery 1793 to 1815. Militias and Yeomanry abounded in this period so further research would be necessary to attribute this one. However, the pigtail was abolished post 1808 so as this image excludes one we could presume it to be post 1808. The plume is another clue but as yet a white plume with yellow tip has not come to light. An approximate date for this silhouette would be 1808-1815. An unusual survivor in its original condition.
