A very pretty sewing item in Tunbridgeware, being a combined box with sliding top and a pin cushion. The base wood veneer is rosewood, and all sides decorated with geometric pattern. The top has the dot and dash pattern and the pin cushion cover is original. No doubt produced in quantity by all the manufactories, it is not possible to attribute the item, and dating it is difficult for the same reason. The Austen reference, page 127, has such a box in the illustration 56d, the fourth page of the 1925 Tunbridge Wells Manufacturing Co catalogue. This shows the item was produced throughout the period of Tunbridgeware manufacturing 1830-1939. Its condition is excellent.
