This is a traditional needle box in the form of a leather-bound book. The gilt edges mimic the gilt-edged pages, the red leather binding has a gilt tooling to the spine. Inside is the original printed paper lining with a pretty purple coloured velvet cover to the needle cushion. Most pleasingly for the Baxter collector is the Baxter print to the front cover, it being the second image from the left of “Religious Events No 1” (see Martin reference page 95) CL No 139. Complete needle box sets are quite rare, and within that category the Religious Events is similarly hard to find. It is especially pleasing to find one of the prints applied to a lovely needle box.
