Stevengraph of “Marquis of Salisbury KG” (STG 72). One of the series of portraits of politicians, there are three variants, one with no flowers (STG 71), this one with a spray of red roses (STG 72), and one with roses that are bright yellow and orange (STG 72a). All are quite hard to come by ranging from 3* to 5* rarity in the Sprake Darby reference. Framed and glazed within an ebonised moulding with a gilt slip. The mount is of the D1 type (1889-91) but without the credit under the picture. On label 31+32 but without the – between silk and woven (Godden). The combination of the mount and label dates this to about 1900.
