One of a pair of signed water colour vignettes “York Street Scene with Minster in the Distance” by George Fall (1848-1925). The image size is approximately 32 cms x 23 cms and it is in the original elaborate gilded frame. The frame maker was John Sampson of 14 Coney Street, York (label au verso). Fall was a detailed topographical painter who studied at Selby and then the York School of Art & Craft. His style is resonant of Birket Foster. He specialised in York vignettes but worked in Durham and painted other cityscapes. He has always been highly collectable and his work is shown in the York City Art Gallery. This example is dated to C1900, with no foxing or discolouration and showing, good strong colours.
