A beautiful family group of four individuals captured within the silhouette process. They are in the manner of Miers, painted upon card, and excellently embellished with gilt highlights. Each is dated and on the back of the parent’s pictures are the name of the family, but it is nearly indecipherable. The nearest interpretation is that of Mr & Mrs Kirkby, but this cannot be assured. What is certain is that they were executed in 1816 which was at a time that the Miers Studio was active, and with precision and delicacy. The frame taken possession with was not original, the silhouettes were improperly mounted, and the materials not of a conservation standard. This has now been rectified and they are presented in a simple gilt frame and a clean cream mount.
