A family group of five individual cut silhouettes with beautiful gilt embellishment. There is no indication of the artist or the sitters. The damaged frame (not original) is replaced with a simple gilt cushion moulding. Dating places the group within the 1840-50 group, the lady’s attire reflecting exactly that of the illustration on page 153 of the McKechnie reference book. Her hair is in the second style, whilst the gentleman’s attire, especially coat and neck, is seen on page 111. The boy’s collar is slightly larger than later in the decade, so that narrows the period to 1840-5. This is a simply presented and excellently executed family silhouette portrait of the period.
