“Called to the Rescue” sub-titled “Heroism at Sea” (STG 179), a lifeboat rescue scene. It forms a pair with “For Life or Death – Heroism on Land” (fire engine scenes). The colour of the crew’s clothing changes in various copies of this picture. A one star rarity in the Sprake & Darby book on Stevengraphs, this one showing excellent colouring, near perfect mount and overall condition. Unframed within a B type mount used after the close of the York Exhibition from 31 October 1879 to 1886. The label is a 19 title variant and dates the piece accurately to 1881.
