A burr walnut Tunbridgeware glove box of waisted form. This delightful example of Tunbridgeware is of interest due to the abstract geometrical patterns combined with the stylised butterfly beautifully presented within the chequered border. A similar example can be seen in “Tunbridgeware” by B Austen, page 109, plate 48), and the attribution is either Nye or Burrows. This item is therefore dated prior to 1850, probably about 1845. The inside has been recovered and the original lock is working.
