Stevengraph “Are You Ready” (STG 169). The first of the Oxford & Cambridge Boat Race pair, this landscape view of the River Thames is paired with “The Final Spurt” (STG 170).Two star rarity value (out of seven) in the Sprake & Darby book on Stevengraphs, but the mount and label make this relatively common picture unique. It was a popular image and was produced for many years, but those on the later mounts such as this are very rare. The trade label is of the 31+29b variety, the title of it reverting to a thinner, plain style. The mount type is Type C, but the credit under the picture is unique as it is only “Woven in Pure Silk”. Probably dated after 1893. The blades have retained their colour, being prone to colour loss.
