“Good News” (LB No 72, CL No 88), an oval by Abraham Le Blond (1819-94). This was probably adapted from a painting by Thomas Webster in 1852 entitled “A Letter from the Colonies”. William Mulready also painted “The Letter” in 1843 which shows a similar indoor scene. There are similarities to the Baxter pair “Australia, News from Home” and “News from Australia”. Dated 1850-1867. Complete mount as with all the others on the site, with embossed title and ribbing around the picture. This is but one of three indoor scenes in the series.
