Ebonised and Inlaid Sewing Box

An ebonised sewing box adorned with beautiful pewter and mother of pearl inlay, in original condition. The outside is dramatic as the inlaid metal and other mixed materials contrast so well with the deep black carcase of the piece. Within there are two ivory acorn containers, mother of pearl cotton winders, tape and emery, all being of the same pattern. There is some damage to the contents (reels) as the pictures show. The base of the box has been re-upholstered within, and very nicely, but otherwise it is as it was. A delightful box dating from C1861 onwards, with some interesting contents.
