An unattributed watercolour silhouette of a gentleman facing left with gilt highlights and different shades of black colouring, framed in a black square traditional frame. The quality of this image is unmistakeable. It has an indistinct name to the reverse, probably the sitter (Chs Shreiber?). His dress – the high collar turned down, and cravat – date the piece to 1800-1815. The hair is “a la Titus”. It was with three other Foster pictures and may be by him – one of his black (as opposed to red) works.
