A lovely pair of cut out watercolour silhouettes gilt highlighted in original oval fruitwood frames. They can be dated accurately thanks to the extensive detail to the rear (1846) and this can be affirmed by dresses for infants being in vogue to about 1850 whatever their gender. The images are of Henry Cooke Smith (b 25/03/1846) & Robert Arthur Smith (b 02/05/1846), sitting Sept 1846. It is unusual to have this much detail and for the silhouettes to be done for such young sitters.
