Silhouette of “Elizabeth Whitehead” as detailed at the back of the image and the accompanying marriage certificate. The back of the picture also says “Bride” so this dates the piece to around the date of marriage (8th January 1854). It is unusual to have the additional documentary information to accompany the silhouette. The picture is in watercolour, cleverly highlighted by hard pencil lines, delicate whites, and darker black. Framed in the original rosewood frame with gilt slip.
