Baxter Prints
George Baxter (1804-1867) patented a process of colour printing in 1835. It was this process that made up his life's work, producing many images for book illustrations as well as stand alone prints. The success of the technical process as well as the subjects represented which reflect Victorian life are the two main reasons for interest in his work. There are numerous reference books to assist us, most of which are out of print. The stock shown here is a mixture of framed and unframed prints. If you have any requests for reference books or prints please contact me. If a picture is framed then this will be notified in the text and you are asked to note the additional nominal charge for despatch. The listing includes the Bertrand Morgan Collection. This private collection was acquired over 70 years from the 1930s by an auctioneer. The main theme was of quality, nothing else. The colouring of all examples of Baxter prints is outstanding, all having been kept unframed in albums.
